Does natural skincare work?
With more people switching to ‘green’ skincare, we often find ourselves asking which one is more effective – natural or non-natural. We all want results but does natural skincare work?
Let's start by saying that natural skincare has been around for centuries. Our ancestors knew a thing or two about using ingredients from the land to pamper their skin. So, it's safe to say that nature has some skin-loving tricks up her sleeve.
Let’s think about this logically for a moment. Let’s go back in time and remember the days of when there were no scientists, chemists, and cosmetologists. Where did they start? Where did they get the idea to create skincare? Where did the ingredients come from? They came from the plants and trees of course. :)
Some of the best scientifically proven ingredients being used in skincare today were first sourced from plants and trees that were found in nature. As we progressed in science and technology, we took what mother nature gave us and refined it. Then we started developing chemical ingredients to give faster results.
Over time, the advancements in natural skincare and natural extracts have come to equal its non-natural counterpart. The significant difference is, however, the way in which ingredients are sourced and manufactured (i.e. sourced as a raw material and extracted or synthetically made in a factory).
What it comes down to is what our skin uses, absorbs, and reacts to. Since our skin cannot tell the difference between the naturally derived and a synthetically manufactured ingredient, both natural and non-natural skincare perform basically the same. Natural skincare may take slightly longer than its non-natural equivalent, so you may need to be patient to get the same results you want.
Does that mean every natural skincare product is a miracle in a jar? Not necessarily. You see, not all-natural ingredients are created equal. Some have impressive benefits, while others might leave you scratching your head, wondering if they do anything at all.
Here's the thing: nature is full of potent goodies that can work wonders for your skin. We're talking about aloe vera, tea tree oil, coconut oil, and shea butter, just to name a few. These bad boys can moisturize, soothe, and protect like nobody's business.
If you want to try ‘green’ skincare, and you are doubtful to change your current skincare regime, start slowly. Get to know your ingredients and do your research. While many ‘green’ skincare brands (even us) point out that their products are chemical free, not all ingredients in our products may agree with you. Allergens and sensitivity to certain ingredients are something you need to look out for. You can still have a bad reaction to a natural ingredient if your skin is very sensitive. For example, lavender oil is one of the best natural ingredients out there. It’s packed with a heap of benefits, such as, helping you sleep, antifungal properties and reducing inflammation. Lavender oil also helps cleanse your skin and lessen redness and irritation. Unfortunately, even though it’s natural, I cannot benefit from its brilliant properties because my skin has a reaction when I use it. So it is important to know the ingredients that are in the product you want to try.
But don't let any of this discourage you from giving natural skincare a whirl! It's all about finding what your skin loves and sticking to it like peanut butter and jelly. If you're into eco-friendly, cruelty-free options that make you feel like a nature goddess, then natural skincare is calling your name!
So, in conclusion, does natural skincare work? Absolutely! However, like any good relationship, it requires a bit of effort and understanding. Experiment, have fun, and let nature's bounty pamper your beautiful skin. Just be mindful of what ingredients your skin loves and those it's not so fond of.
Remember, there's no one-size-fits-all answer to skincare. It's a journey of self-discovery and finding what makes you and your skin happy. Whether it's all-natural or a mix of natural and synthetic, the real magic happens when you listen to your skin's needs and treat it with the love and care it deserves.
You can also check out a list of our favourite ingredients that we love and use in our skincare, here. However, we should point out, that these are not all the ingredients, and this list will most certainly change as we add to our product range in future.
Cheers to embracing the magic of nature and finding your skincare soulmate! Now go ahead, pamper yourself with some natural goodness, and let your skin glow like the star it truly is!
Happy researching and we hope that you will try one of our products and that you will enjoy using them. :)
